Does stress cause your hair to fall out?

I've been stressing over a few things lately (financial problems mostly) and i've noticed that my hair has been falling out a lot more than usual. When I shower, I normally lose a few strands here and there, but lately it's been getting worse, so now I'm stressing over that! So could stress be the cause?
BTW I'm not bald or anything, my hair is pretty thick.

Yes, most certainly. But there's also the natural shedding that occurs during a woman's cycle. I can't remember when this increases exactly tho, sorry. I don't know if it's before or after ovulation. But the hormones changing causes this. Also mineral/vitamin deficiency and of course, radiation exposure all cause hair loss.

Yes stress does hair to fall out. Excessive physical or emotional stress. The more common type is called telogen effluvium. With this less severe type of hair loss, the hair stops growing and lies dormant, only to fall out 2 or 3 months later. Then it grows back within 6 to 9 months.
The other type of stress-induced hair loss is known as alopecia areata, and involves a white blood cell attack on the hair follicles. With this type of hair loss, the hair also falls out within weeks (usually in patches), but can involve the entire scalp and even body hair. Hair may grow back on its own, but treatment may also be required.

I LIVE IN SACRAMENTO 2!!!! HAHAHA LOL ANYWAYS...

YES....my hair is doing the same exact thing right now, and I just had a baby so along with the baby AND the stress that goes with it, I'm losing alot of hair right now. You are lucky that your hair is thick. My hair is VERY fine and I really can't afford to lose any hair because it's looking really flat and ugly LOL But yes, it is completely normal. To ease your stress, there is no other option that will work better for you then exercising. (A friend of mine whom is a Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard University said exercise is the number one killer of stress among MANY other things such as anxiety, addiction and so on........)

Absolutely. To relieve the stress, try walking 45 minutes a day, getting some fresh air and sunshine every day (even if it's only 10 minutes at a time, try to get an hour of fresh air some how). Watch what you eat--add green vegetables, fish and whole grain bread.

yes depending how hard you are stressing, especially if its coming out in clumps....if so, take it easy. it will get greater later.

Stress can cause you to lose hair, but I would definitely call your doctor.

Yes my mom had the same problem when she was really stressed over work.
