Is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder more common in a certain age group?

Is there an age when you are more prone to developing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder? and why?

These is not really an established age group where post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) develops. PTSD can develop at any age, including childhood, but research has shown that the median age of onset is around 23 years.

Researches have found that it is more common in migraine sufferers and during adulthood.

However there are certain events where people are more prone to developing PTSD. Whether someone reacts to an event with a post-traumatic stress disorder is largely dependent on the severity of the event, or stressor, itself. Sexual assault, for one, is more likely to produce PTSD than other horrible experiences. The disorder also frequently occurs after violent personal assaults such as rape, mugging, or domestic violence; terrorism; natural or human-caused disasters; and accidents.

For example, some studies have found that PTSD develops in about:

1 in 5 fire-fighters.
1 in 3 teenager survivors of car crashes.
1 in 2 female rape victims.
2 in 3 prisoners of war.

Hope this helps! :)

Possibly certain cohorts, as in people of a certain age who may have been involved in a traumatic world event. However I don't think age has an impact on ptsd. I guess what I am saying is it can impact any age, but there may be either certain events that are more likely to happen at a certain age, or certain groups of people who may have been involved in something traumatic such as a war that impacted on many people. People of all ages, abilities, intelligence etc can be affected by ptsd. I work with people with intellectual disabilities, unfortunately many of them have experienced severe violence and sexual abuse. Many of them have ptsd and they all vary in age.

there is not a certain age group who gets PTSD. It happens when someone sees something or experiances something that they are unable to cope with. Such as soldiers coming back from war, there were higher numbers when the war first began since there was more fighting going on. though some still get it to this day. some people just cannot handle the things their eyes see.

Probably teenagers after the trauma has been initiated and while the brain is still in development. would be an interesting research study.. i know a lot of people will be affected by ptsd in probably 20's-30's or when something reminds them of the trauma they faced while younger. It all just depends on when the event happened, most trauma associated with a bad case of ptsd is happens to the person as a child and affects them subconsciously for years before it surfaces which can be anytime in their life.

Age has nothing to do with PTSD. PTSD is usually because the brain can not had the trauma and has to place the memories somewhere. However, the shock, horror, fear etc. can escape back into the memory and affect the person. Also the trauma can be emotional and not just physical.

There are many stress relief practices you can do that only take a short amount of time. Take deep, cathartic breaths while not think at all of your wedding. Maybe, a nice peice of chocolate, for instance. Hire a wedding planner that can do most of everything and that will put you at ease. Ask your to-be-husband for help, also. And congrats!

To answer you though, it is even among all ages because it is a disorder developed after a traumatic event (Rape, death, car wreck, ect.) which can happen when you are a teen or adult.

PTSD can occur at any age. A certain demographic other than age group would more easily identify someone with PTSD.

Teenagers because school related stress like bullying, Acne, Loss of friends, And gangs
