How can I stop eating out of stress or boredom? |
I've always had this problem but is even harder as a stay at home mom of a 8 month old. Chew some gum to occupy your mouth and try to find ways to distract yourself, like a favorite hobby or a fun activity. Eat filling meals that consist of whole grains (fiber keeps you full), plenty of fruits and vegetables, and some lean protein. Take time to study your eating patterns to learn what triggers your eating in these moments. Drink plenty of water, and keep healthy snacks at hand in case you get hungry. Also, exercise is a great way to control your weight, your blood pressure and adds to your good health by reducing stress and by keeping your muscles and bones in good shape. you could try playing an instrument, such as guitar, or drums. Also, if you eat out of stress and boredom, a good idea is to not buy unhealthy foods. Also, if you eat while you are stressed, you should just try drinking water instead, that will curb your hunger away. Also staying away from the kitchen and not thinking about food when you are bored will play a key role. You should also consider some yoga, that will get you fit, and will relax you of stress due to breathing exercises. You could also spend some more time with the 8 month old kid of yours, and play with him. The key is to develop a habit of incompatible behavior. When you know that you're stressed or bored, you need to do something that won't allow you to eat: take a walk (with the baby), write in a journal (can't eat and write at the same time most likely), knit (I took up knitting and it stopped my post-dinner snacking!), clean the house, do yoga, or something else you like to do that will not permit you to eat at the same time. Some people also suggest brushing your teeth as a way to prevent incessant snacking because you get that toothpaste taste in your mouth and you don't want to eat, plus you are doing something healthy which will remind you to do other healthy things. okay u kinda have to be commited if u wanna get out of it. month of january freshmen year, i was SOOO STRESSED OUT i put on 10 lbs of weight just that month. so i just told myself to stop and well, as hard as it was i did and then i kept telling myself to stop until it became a HABIT. so the 1st time its hard, but after a while u REALLY stop thinking about food since ur new habit is not to eat unless its meal time. one of the best ways is to know when you're bored and find an activity that both you and baby can do. with stress and boredom I have the same reaction. However I have conquored it YAY. I have found Gum that a good flavor to help a ton. I have also picked up on doing extra stuff. Suck as if Bored I leave the house for a few. If stressed take a few mins. and relax and put your self into a good mood. Good luck. Find something you enjoy doing in your spare time and do that instead of eat. By doing this, it'll take your mind off of food and in a while, your habits will go away. Drink 2 cups of water or a can of seltzer- 1. its healthy and 2. it makes u full! try useful stress relievers instead: http://stress-help-guide.com/simple-stre... I chew gum!
