Stroke? Or Anxiety attack? |
Ok... I just came from the emergency room. My fiance got out of my car after feeling short of breath. She fell, but didn't feel dizzy or black out. I asked her if she was ok, she just looked at me for a while. I went to the car to start it up and unlock the doors as she finally said that she was ok. I had to pick her up and put her in the car because her legs kept giving. Her arms and legs started to feel tingly and numb. At this point, she started to have a panic attack and cried (She's had a few before but no tingling/numbness and all this.) We got to the emergency room and told them all this, with the addition of she was very cold in a warm room after we were seen. I also mentioned that her eye drooped down in a lot of her pictures (All the ones in the past year or so). And I mention that she has sever memory problems (Can't remember much in HS). They say she had an anxiety reaction, gave her meds and sent her on her way. She still couldn't walk, meds? And tingly hands/feet existed. PS: They instantly started saying it was anxiety... before they even looked at her... because they get those cases every day! They didn't test her for anything else, that I know of. Checked her BP/pulse, sugar level, and took some blood. Was that enough? They seemed kind of arrogant and she's never had something like this before. Her previous anxiety attacks never lasted this long (hours!) and didn't involve numbness/tingling, can't walk because her legs are weak (Couldn't feel them either. She said that they had a mind of their own and didn't want to cooperate), and sever chills. So... does this sound more like a stroke, or an anxiety attack? Take her to another ER if you live in a big enough town. Oftentimes if one is young with a history of panic attacks they automatically presume it's that. Also call your on call MD to see if they have anything else to say - such as another recommendation. Get a friend to see if she's OK and take her to the other ER...Call her on call advice doctor on what to do and do it as soon as you can! well mate to be perfectly honest she might of had a T.I.A which is a minor stroke the syptoms should go in a day or so if not get a 2nd opinion The blood tests, especially high homocysteine levels can indicate whether someone is having a stroke. Usually a stroke occurs on 1 side of the body. I've had anxiety attacks and I felt likewas going to pass out.Once,I was at the nursing home visiting my mom, started out the door. I just froze at the door and couldn't move. Sounds like something else is going on with her besides the anxiety attacks. When she's having one of these spells, take hold of both of her hands and ask her to squeeze yours.... if she's having a stroke, you'll notice a remarkably weaker grip on one side. Also, ask her to smile, if she can't smile on one side.... also a good sign of stroke. |
