Mum had big stroke in june led to many falls, plus pychosamatic no facial paralasis, legs gone?

in hospital on puree food as is sick at times, waiting for care home ,no insurance nhs wants to come home for xmas , have to find out if i will be given any help. mum is 80.

If you really feel that you can't cope or manage your mum then you have to say NO and be definite about it
This doesn't make you a bad person. It's a decision made based on what's best for your mum

It is very difficult to look after an elderly person with this condition by yourself and is a 24 hour job and can be exhausting for you..Even if a carer is available during the day you could still be up all night with her

There is also the possibility that once you take her home for Xmas there will be no bed in NHS hospital for her to go back to.
Your mum will at least get all the help she needs in hospital. The staff there can walk away at the end of their shift knowing someone else is taking care of her. You can't do that

contact your local council, and the hospital, surely they must be able to do something. Or Age concern, there are many charities that deal with the elderly. So sorry to hear about this, you must be having such a tough time, my mum is in relatively good health thank heavens.

Oh i am so sorry, my gran had a stroke last christmas and was left in a state of paralysis, we managed to get a carer to come daily which i admit was a fight as the NHS are so strapped for cash....phone your GP they will arrange for some kind of home help, also make sure you call the benefits agency and let them know as you will be entitled to financial assistance.

Good luck to you at this horrible time

Of course help is available. They can't throw her out on the street. How many homeless people are in the same situation but have no idea where to go? I'd hate to see your Mom become homeless. That won't happen tho if you stick to your guns. Social services is for that as well as Seniors Benefits. Trouble is they don't want everyone to know. Where would they put them all? They'd have to build new housing, special care homes, institutions, etc. Would be better than what they are doing now tho. Sending money to other countries for "Humanitarian" reasons. Look after those at home first, I say. Society is judged by how it treats its sick, elderly and poor. The government is not doing a very good job. It's trying to look good in the eyes of the world with it's "generous offerings" to countries that are poorer and have other problems. Look after the people at home first and they can still help the other countries. By looking after the Nations people first it's going to create employment thus more taxes collected to pay for world aide. Ever notice that Politicians don't run government like business?
My Auntie in the UK was in the same situation as my Uncle passed away and they were the only ones left over there. Everyone else moved to Canada. My Auntie here handled everything for her from here. She checked to see what resources we have here and followed the trail to the resources you have there. The benefits are very similar because our system is based on yours. She contacted the Kennedys and they set up a lawyer to handle everything as they could find out all the benefits she was entitled to....funny thing is, she was allowed to have a certain amount in the bank for special needs and comforts. Everything was covered by the government and they even paid the lawyer fees. Good to have a lawyer on your side with a team that can research everything. When her health was better in the summer, my Aunt here contacted the lawyers to see if the money put aside could be used for her to come here. It could be used for travel, new clothes, entertainment ( a television, etc.) furniture and a vehicle to suit her needs. Anyway, with this new found knowledge my Auntie came to Canada and is now with family. And you know what....her health is getting better every day.
Had it not been for a lawyer I don't think the government would have revealed what her TOTAL entitlements were. Ha ha, I think she was treated better than the Queen.
What do they say? No pain, no gain?

She should be taking 4 Omega 3 fish oil supplements, daily, but in view of above, 2 teaspoonsful of cod liver oil, and aspirin (buffered) and possibly 2 cloves of crushed, fresh garlic, to minimise the chances of a repeat stroke. Because these thin the blood, making it less likely to clot, they should be discontinued 2 weeks before surgical procedures, and resumed only after healed. Everyone should learn to become ambidextrous, so that the other side of their brain is developed, and capable of taking over functions, in case of stroke. NeuroLinguistic Programming, or hypnotherapy is advised for psychosomatic ailments. See http://www.mackaynlpsolutions.co.uk/ and http://www.nlp.org Free Course - Learn Hypnosis in 5 Days
Free email course includes audio hypnosis sessions, worksheets and instructions on how to hypnotize.
