What can i do now to prevent strokes in my older ages?

I know the usual eat healthy, exercise etc. thing but my main worry is that migraines can actually lead to strokes and I do suffer from migraines (with aura). What can I do? Should I somehow tackle the migraine problem? Any other suggestions?
Ah, yes, I do have history of stroke in my family.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stroke

This is a link to wikipedia that lists migraines with auras as one of the risk factors to strokes!

i sympathize with you has i have been a migraine sufferer all my 52 years of my life. i suggest that you calm down relax a bit more if things get out of hand take you time to tackle the problem like eg if it took you 1 hour to get into town why worry take it slowly dont rush around like a mad idiot, if it takes longer it dosent matter enjoy a long plod you will get there eventually and avoid danger food like cheese, chocolate, and drinks that have cafeine in them like tea, coffee, chocolate, cocoa, i still get headaches but i have leant not to rush myself.you have heard of the story against a tortoise and the hare, well be like the tortoise let someone else be the hare and get stressed and burnt out.

Strokes are most often caused by high blood pressure. Migraines are not an issue here. Keep your cholesterol levels down, your weight within normal ranges and live your life to the full. If you have high BP, your doctor can prescribe tablets to help bring it down.
Migraines, especially those with aura, can be well controlled using triptans. You can buy Sumatriptan (brand name Imigran) over the counter in the UK now. Or get it prescribed by your GP.

Consult your doctor because there are some meds he/she can prescribe, including plain aspirin, that can help reduce the risk of stroke.

From what I have read on sixwise.com the best thing to reduce the risk of strokes is to take vitamin B12

I have never heard a connection between migraine and stroke before. Keep to a healthy diet with exercise and that should be enough. The contraceptive pill can increase risk slightly so avoid if your really worried.

I don't know about the link between migraine and strokes, but I can give some answers to your question about preventing strokes. Strokes can happen as a result of build-up of fats or clots in the arteries and as a result of thinning or hardending of the arteries as we get older. The nutritional answer to preventing this is good diet and supplements for healthy heart such as Omega-3 and of course, exercise. The lining of the wall of the arteries benefits from several things including something thats found in dark grapes and red wine. Creating more nitric oxide through exercise is also excellent for the arteries, blood and heart. It can also be produced through a quality supplement such as Niteworks. E-mail me for me information if you wish.

I also have migraines with aura. What I understand is that people who have migraines with aura are more likely to have a stroke but migraines with aura do not lead to stroke. You should always treat wikipedia entries with caution as anybody can write them so they cannot be regarded as an authoritative source.

I don't think there is a cure for migraines, however medical science moves on every day so you can never be sure. Why don't you ask your doctor for a 'well person check' or a health MOT. You can discuss your stroke and migraine concerns and the doctor can assess your risks of a range of medical conditions and identify how to improve your well-being.

hummm.... i think you should reduce your worries... reduce the level at which you worry your brain... let things happen naturally.... worries causes fear and fear leads to fast heartbeat and fast heartbeat leads to heart attack which is an express way to strokes.
