How come heart attacks and stroke is not as common as it was in the 60s and 70s?

If obesity and cholestrol causes heart attacks why are people living longer and not having heart attacks

Hi Janice

Not sure where you got your stats (FDA or the AMA likes to put out misleading reports all the time), but I tend to disagree and also with the person above me. Our diet and medicine is not as advanced. We take pills instead of normal foods or herbs to heal ailments. We dont give our body a chance to heal issues because we are constantly surpressing the issues. Our obesity is out of control because we have man made chemicals in everything we eat. Not many people exercise and we have more stress then we ever have.

Heart and Circulatory disease kills more Americans than any other disease, in fact more than ALL other diseases added together. That鈥檚 over 1 MILLION PEOPLE EVERY YEAR. The main diseases that kill are heart attacks and stroke. 99% OF THESE DEATHS are caused by coronary arteries to the heart or cerebral arteries to the brain being blocked with cholesterol and then death to the corresponding organ occurs. Other common diseases of the circulatory system include hypertension (high blood pressure), Hypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol), Cardiac arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat), Taccycardia (accelerated heartbeat) and Congestive Heart Disease.

Best of health to you

food, diet, lifestyle, enviroment we live in and better healthcare has reduced chances of getting any heart attacks... besides the advamcement in tech has improved from 60s to the new millenium..

High blood pressure and high cholesterol and smoking are the leading risk factors for heart disease and stroke.

Wide-spread efforts to test people for high blood pressure and cholesterol plus effective treatments for both of those conditions have had a big effect on decreasing the incidence of those diseases. Decreases in the number of smokers has also contributed.

1. Fewer people smoking
2. More people exercising.
3. More people getting preventative medical advice and medications.

Its almost the same stats, since there are now more people obese.
