Speech recorvery of a stroke vitcitm??

My mo had a stroke last friday and came home on sunday a lilttle retarded she forgets words when she speaking a sentence and acts like a weaker version of her i miss my old mom will she ever be her self??

My Dad in law had a stroke a few years ago now, and he was the same. But it did get better with time. He's not 100% but I'd say he's at least 90% back to the way he was. It depends on what sections of the brain were affected, and how badly, as to how much recovery is possible.

It takes patience and it takes time.... but yes. If she can speak and move around so soon after her stroke then chances are she will recover to at least 85% of who she was before the stroke.

Be patient. Be kind. Always be gentle when you correct her. Don't help her figure out a word until she asks you to. It may take her a while, but you need to let her try to remember on her own. Don't let her feel embarrassed if she forgets.

Oh, and don't call your mother "retarded."

I knew a man who had a stroke that left him paralyzed on one side. He was in a rehab hospital for almost a year... and now he's as good as new.

She'll need time, and your help, but she will improve.
