I would recommend applesauce and oatmeal, since having another stroke while eating could cause one to choke. For those more adventurous, I would recommend to stay away from foods with high cholesterol, and foods high in sodium. I say this assuming that the stroke was caused by narrowed arteries, but I suppose it could have different etiology, in which case, it doesn't matter what you eat. If you threw a clot, or had some sort of hemmorhagic incident, then go ahead and fry your eggs in bacon grease. Also, I believe that the person above me meant to say "TIA" instead of "TAI", since "TIA" stands for transient ischemic attack which is in effect a mini-stroke. Good luck.

a good balanced food plan with maybe lower carbohydrate levels.

We all need a small bit of fats and protein in our food plan. We all need a large amount of dark green leafy veggies, some other good veggies and some fruit. That is unless we are put on coumiden. then we do without the dark green leafy ones.

Take meds as directed by doctor, exercise gently and eat a good balanced food plan is the best advice around.

the DASH diet has been recommended for heart and stroke patients. Dr Ornish has his, but it is so severe, and studies have been done at a Pa university with good results for the Volumetrics diet- which is basically filling up on low cal, high fiber foods rather than junk.
any diet that is low in cholesterol, fats and salt and high in vitamins, fiber and fresh foods is going to be a good one. Our doctor also offered us a class at the hospital for pre diabetes, since it also deals with portion control etc. Ultimately it would depend on if the person needed to lose weight, or just be on a diet for cholesterol or whatever, really, not enough info given. Most important- stay on your meds...blood thinners like plavix, and aspirin and blood pressure meds and statins if you are on them.
