My mother is 49 and suffered a stroke...?

She has been in the hospital for about a week now and the doctors are still saying "i don't know" whenever she/we ask, what is really wrong with her. She was told she had a brain anurism which caused her to have a stroke. Now they said when they looked at the MRI, it showed she had internal bleeding in her brain and they don't know whats causing it. She also has 1in mass on her brain and again, they won't say what they think it is. It also showed a lot of spots on her brain where she suffered mini stokes and couldn't detect them. They keep telling her she is going home soon and that has been said since friday,..i know very well she is going to be there for a little bit longer than she hopes. My question is, does anyone know what this could possible be? Cancer? All this is genetic so i am just trying to get an outside opinion. Thanks for your advice

They may be keeping her to decide if they need to do surgery for the bleeding. She may not be better, but she may reach a point that she can't stay in the hospital. So, the issue is can you care for her at home or do you do nursing home placement. On top of that is the cost for these services. As to speak with the medical social worker in the hospital as soon as possible. They probably do not work at night or on the weekend. They should know about resources and discuss what might be needed.

Hello!

There are many reasons why a person can have a stroke. Since you said that in this case it is genetic...meaning that it has been running in the family, I would say this is due to Familial Hyperlipidemia. Hyperlipidemia is a word used to describe too much fat in the bloodstream. In other words their is too much cholesterol in the blood.Since you said this is genetic, this means that for most of the family members it is hard for the body to break down the fat.

The fat continues running through the vessels and starts clogging up the arteries. Now when one of the vessels in the brain gets clogged to the point were it does not allow blood to flow through anymore, thats when that part of the brain is deprived of oxygen ( because blood carries oxygen) and a stroke is present.

I would suggest that she try and watch what she eats. She needs to watch out for the amount of cholesterol she is putting in her system because it can cause another stroke.
