Can bad cough lead to stroke? |
I have a cough that just wont go away, as I have allergies and refuse to take medication so as to avoid drowsiness... anyway, I have to keep forcing the mucus out of my throat to clear it, and every time I do this I feel blood rushing to my head... can this lead to problems such as stroke??? as I keep having to force the stuff out of my throat I've been a nurse for awhile and have never heard of someone coughing so hard they had a stroke. Im not saying it would never happen but if it does it would be really rare. Only if you already have very high blood pressure would there be any risk of a stroke by a hard cough. I think what youre doing is having a vasal vagal response to the coughing. You are probably coughing so hard that you cause your heart rate to suddenly drop so fast that you get light headed. Try not to cough so hard, drink alot of fluids so that you break up the mucus and dont have to cough so much. Since you dont like medication how about a cough drop to soothe your throat and ease the coughing along with the increased fluids. i suffer from asthma and whenever i get flu, (cold) i get real bad cough and alot of mucus gets stocked into my wind pipe.. it hurts hell.. i cough so much that my chest hurts and i feel like am guna get a heart attack. ( am 20) lol. i get migraines too during this. but what i do is i put two of my fingers down my throat ( i know it sounds painful and gross but its effective) and then i vomit most of the mucus out and then quickly i drink some water and then right after that i drink 1 or 2 tablespoon of good cough syrup and go to bed. and when i wake up after like 6 - 7 hours, ill be feeling kinda better and i repeat the above mentioned procedure till i get well. :) yes if someone has aneurysms in the brain blood vessels they can bleed and lead to a stroke. |
