How many people out there have suffered a stroke under the age of 25?

I think younger people are getting strokes more now than they have in the past. Part of it could be due to the fact that the population has increased though. Any thoughts?

I did not have high blood pressure or any causation for a stroke and I had one when I was 22. The doctors don't really know what caused it.

The ones I saw in 20 years of practice in stroke rehab were due to cocaine use with its tendency to make the blood pressure spike, eclampsia of pregnancy, premature cardiovascular disease, previously undiagnosed hypertension, and ruptured aneurysms.
I worked in large teaching hospitals where they weren't common, but not rare, either. Cases in community hospitals are rare, though, as they typically have a much smaller catchment area.
Incidence really hasn't much to do with greater population, as incidence is figured on the percent of cases per unit of population rather than the strict number of cases.

I would think it would be due to an increase in juvenile, Type 2 diabetes from sugary processed foods and lack of activity.

my friends brother did but he also has turrets i dont know if that caould have any factor that caused it

It is very rare for anyone under the age of 40 to suffer a stroke, but when it does happen it is usually caused by high blood pressure. High blood pressure is a silent killer and most people don't know they have it until it's to late!

i was 28 is that close enough? i was a heavy smoker still am, started BUYING my own at 9 yrs old, and the stroke was not smoking related. stress was the worst contributing factor. i left home @16, and was the manager of a large company by 21. i think the reason for the rise is we forgot how to relax, never take the time to smell the roses and sometimes go for days if not weeks at a time without cracking a smile let alone laughing.
