Can a person suffer from a heart attack and stroke at the same time?

it is for my CSI project....just wondering.....

Most people don't realize it, but when your heart stops pumping, your brain will begin to die in about 4 to 6 minutes. Hence, myocardial infarction (or heart muscle cell death) is generally followed closely behind by cerebral infarction (or brain cell death). So, if a heart attack is severe enough to stop your heart, your brain will probably start to die shortly thereafter (ie stroke).

If you have a heart attack, but it still pumps weakly, with enough pressure to supply your brain with sufficient oxygen, then you can avoid the stroke.

Good luck.

Yes. A friend was running in the Houston marathon last year. Just before the finish line he fell over dead. The autopsy showed that he had both a heart attack and stroke simultaneously.

Potentially you can have both a heart attack and a stroke at the same time. Because stroke causes paralization, you could not recognize the heart attack.

yes, but it is not common.

Yes, unfortunately it is possible.

Yes. Heart attacks and strokes are related. You can have a heart attack caused by a number of factors, including clogged arteries. While you are having that attack, the heart fails, it cannot pump oxygen-rich blood to your brain, causing a stroke. A stroke happens when the brain is deprived of oxygen for any reason.

The connection between heart attack and stroke is the reason many of the ameliorative lifestyle changes which better your heart also better your risk of avoiding stroke.
