Can a clot in a port lead to a stroke??? |
My 5 year old son has a port, which got a clot. He was given TPA last week to dissolve the clot, but we think he may have had a small stroke yesterday or the day before. He has had a stroke before. They are very mild and we didn't even know he had the first one until the MRI was done. He started to lose function in his legs but all of the dr's told us it was "post radiation" effects. Well it wasn't. He fell over 6 times 2 days ago,and slept from 4-9 last night got up until 11 then went back to bed and didn'tget back up until 8:30 this morning. His strength had weekend alot last night, is a little better this morning. He has (had) a brain tumor. Any feedback would be great. I am tempted to call and get a scan done today, but I don't know. Sorry to read about your stressful situation. I cannot say whether your son has had a stroke, but something isn't right. It is possible to have a stroke caused by a clot that forms in a port: that is why clots are a bad thing to have in ports. |
