Should stroke victims switch hospitals if they aren't in a hospital specifically for strokes? |
My mother had a stroke Monday and my sisters and I are wondering if we should switch the hospital she is in. The hospital she is in seems really shady and it took them a long time, like a day, to diagnose her as having had a stroke, although my sister suggested it as soon as she contacted. My mother had a previous stroke about 5 years ago. hi domino, I am a stroke survivor. I'd ask them the reason for the trach. If they hem and haw about it, then something isn't right. I'd definitely get a hold of her primary MD, tell him your concerns, and have him give you a referral to a hospital that actually treats strokes/brain injuries and the name of a good neurologist. I would want my mom at the hospital that specializes in whichever illness she had. Move her, as the sooner a stroke victim is treated for the stroke, the better chances of a recovery. Hold off on the tracheotomy until you get another doctor who is a specialist. |
