Stroke and brain damage? |
My mother had a "massive" stoke in the main vessel that goes to the left side of her brain. The doctor gave her a clot busting medication and did a procedure to remove the clot. Neither the medication or the procedure was able to remove the clot. Her brain began to swell so the removed a bone flap on the left side. The swelling is starting to go down today so they did an EEG they said the left side of her brain has no brain activity anf the right has full activity. She has still not "waken up" from the sroke. The doctors have not explained the situation very well other than wait and see. Does anyone know if you can survive in half of your brain is dead. The doctors won't tell us anything other than she is medically stable and their is no change nurologically. and that we have to wait and see what happens. Your thoughts and prayers are welcome and needed Hi Lailyn, My prayers are with your mother and with you. My husband had a massive stroke when he was 39. There were not the modern drugs and procedures at that time. He has make enough of a recovery to be able to lead a productive live, although he has some weakness and speech problems. I know your frustrations, because I too wanted answers at the beginning to understand and I was unable to get many. Unfortunately, it is a wait and see situation. When my husband when to rehab, after being in the hosp. for a month, I was able to get more understanding. It can be very frustrating, but be there for her. That is important. Hang in there. Sure dont ever give up on her The brain can do unbelievable things. Don't give up. It can even try to heal itself to work differently from the normal way. They didn't tell you that the no brain activity couldn't come back did they?? Give it a bit of time and she may come out of it ok. Good luck. I had a massive stroke when I was a kid. |
