Stroke how to differentiate between a mass(tumor ) and infarct on CT BRAIN ?

Stroke how to differentiate between a mass(tumor ) and infarct on CT BRAIN ?

A CT scan is not the most appropriate test to diagnose an infarct (ischemic stroke). Changes on CT occur slowly and can be confused with other diagnoses which cause swelling or edema in the brain. A proper MRI can diagnose ischemia and infarction much earlier and more definitively. It can also help rule out a tumor or other mass.

Masses can be seen on a CT if large enough. If done with contrast, most tumors will enhance and show up better than on a non-contrast scan.

An infarct would show a narrowing of the vessel in the brain, whilst a mass would present as a cloudy coloured mass.

With a stroke they inject dye into the bloostream and the site is located where the dye suddenly stops. A tumor is usually defined by size shape location. if using a constrast CT the numerous blood vessels feeding the tumor show up as abnormal patterns.
