I saw a commercial about the Nuva Ring causing strokes, heart attacks and more, should I be worried?

I'm 31 years old, never had children, and I smoke. I plan to stop smoking soon though. I have used the Nuva Ring before with no problems but I stopped for quite some time and now I'm back on it. I've only been on it for about a week now. I absolutely must be on something because I have Menorrhagia and the birth control is the only effective way that I know of treating it. Anyway, I just saw one of those law commercials saying "have you suffered from a stroke, heart attack, pulmonary embolism, etc. while using the Nuva Ring, if so call our law offices" blah blah blah. Should I be worried about this? It seems that they usually have those commericals when there is something to worry about. I know the risks of taking birth control but I'm wondering if there is a higher risk associated with this type or kind of birth control. Any imformation would help. Thank you.

I think you may have cause for concern and should probably discuss the situation with your doctor. Not everyone will be effected in a negative way, but get all the information you can and consider changing your method of B.C.

I can't really answer your question, but I am on depo, I've been on it since 2002. If I were you I wouldn't be on the nuva ring. There must be something else you can be on that is safer. Try to quit smoking for good! Herbs can help you achieve this. Good luck...
