I was just told that my echo-cardiogram after my MVA indicated a stroke. Isn't a stroke related to the brain?

Well the nurse above me is probably correct about you misinterpreting the "stroke volume" (I didnt' catch the echocardiogram part of the question before), but here is some additional information in case you are interested:

My nursing professor gave a great explanation the other day of the difference between a stroke, a heart attack, and a pulmonary embolism. All 3 can derive from the same source, usually a clot. If a clot breaks off and blocks an artery in your lungs, this is considered a pulmonary embolism. If a clot breaks off and blocks an artery to your heart (coronary artery) then it can cause a heart attack. And if it blocks off an artery leading to your brain, it causes a stroke.

Basically anytime an artery gets blocked, the tissue that that artery is supposed to be supplying with oxygen doesn't get the oxygen it needs and is either injured or dies (depending on how long it was oxygen deprived).

Clots can be caused by a few different things: a Deep Vein Thrombosis is a clot that forms in the veins in your lower leg. These can be caused by prolonged sitting, (like on a long airplane ride) or after surgery when you're in bed a lot resting. Another type of clot could be from the breaking off of fatty particles that have built up in your arteries (such as with patients who have artherosclerosis). And the third type of clot that I know of, and the most serious is when the patient has an abnormal heart ryhthm or too fast of a heart rhythm that causes the chambers of the heart to not empty completely. The blood that is left in the chamber clots because it isn't moving.

Another name for a stroke is a cerebrovascular accident, meaning that it involves both the cardiovascular system and the brain.

After having a stroke, you should be assessed for the extent of the damage and any need for rehabilitation.

strokes are usually yes related to the brain

Your echo would show your heart's stroke VOLUME, which is the quantity of blood the left ventricle squeezes out with each contraction. (I don't think you heard quite correctly.)
Heart stroke volume is just like the stroke volume of a cylinder in a car engine, it's a measure of cardiac power (output). The higher the stroke volume (within a certain range) the more in shape your heart muscle is. A low stroke volume (or ejection fraction) would be a sign of disease or trauma (like cardiac tamponade). Perhaps they suspected you hit your chest or injured it in some way during your MVA and they were looking to make sure that your pericardial sac (around the heart) was not full of blood.
