Is there a way to test to see if you had a stroke?

Is there a way to test to see if you had a stroke?

Tests for a stroke could include having the person smile and if one side of the lips droop when smiling means the muscles are weak and could represent a stroke. They can also grab the pointer fingers on a person and if there is a noticeable weaker grip on one side this could also be caused by a stroke. Severe headache, slurred speech, confusion, and high blood pressure sometimes is present with a stroke. Its not safe to base a stroke off of simple test like these I would go to the ER and have a Cat Scan of the brain to know for sure.

If you are looking for the signs of a possible stroke they would be:
-slurred speech or trouble finding the words they are trying to use
-weakness of one side of the body, ie drooping of the face on one side (uneven smile), weakness in one arm, or trouble walking
-problems with balance (drifting sideways when sitting, standing, or walking)

If you are talking about hospital tests:
-CT Scan - This test will show a stroke eventually but may not show it for a few days if the stroke is caused by a clot blocking the flow of blood though an artery and stopping blood flow to a section of the brain. It will usually show a stroke caused by a ruptured blood vessel bleeding into the brain immediately.
-MRI - will show the stroke caused by a clot in an artery much sooner than CT Scan, but doesn't show bleedeing in the brain very well at all.

Yes indeed -

Remember the word S.T.R.oke

S = Smile - get the person to smile

T = Talk. Ask the person to say a simple sentence...where do you live, tell me your name and address....tell me what you had for breakfast.

R = RAISE BOTH ARMS

If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call 999/911 immediately and describe the
symptoms to the dispatcher.
New Sign of a Stroke -------- Stick out Your Tongue

One extra test you could do is to ask the person to 'stick' out his/her tongue.. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other that is also an indication of a stroke.

yes,,a scan,,go to the a/e asap.mary.c.

a CT scan an EEG ( shows brain activiety) MRI
