What would I do if I was having a stroke?

What if I become impaired in some way and cant call 911? Or if I'm alone and no one can help?

How would I know if I'm having a stroke?

For diagnostic purposes:

Smile in the mirror. Raise both arms. Speak a simple sentence, out loud. If you can do all three of these things, you are probably OK.

Getting help:
If you can not call 911 or get anyone's attention, then the stroke will likely proceed without any intervention. This is all too common, and the reason that many seniors wear a panic-button type device. It's worth asking your doctor about that...

Get yourself to the hospital as soon as possible. The damage from a stroke could be completely turned around if the person gets treatment within the two hour window. Some good ways to tell if a person has had a stroke or is having is stroke, is sudden weakness on one side of the body. To check if it may be a stroke ask the person to smile, one side of the face will be pulled down, ask the person to raise both arms, if they are having a stroke, they would not be able to do this.

You need to talk to your doctor about 2 different types of strokes. One by clots and the other is a hemorrhage.

Call 911, then take an aspirin. There are 2 types of strokes- one cause by clots and the other by hemorrhage.

The stroke with clots can be helped by aspirin, the other type is not, and I think is made worse cause aspirin thins the blood more.

If you are on blood thinners, you need to check with your doctor to see if you should take aspirin, cause it is a blood thinner, and find out more about stroke symptoms.

This is too serious for this form.

Here is a helpful link, but call your doctor

You would die after falling and hitting your head on the coffee table. Remember William Holden?
