- Stroke is acute. Alzheimer's is a chronic.
- Stroke happens suddenly. Alzheimer's happens over a period of time.
- Stroke is an event (like a heart attack). Alzheimer's is a disease.
- Through extensive therapy, you can usually expect to see some improvement from a stroke patient. Alzheimer's patients usually just tend to get worse an worse.
- Both cause damage to the brain.
- The brain damage can cause dementia, problems with speech, hearing, vision, memory and motor skills or other problems.
- Dementia is what you would commonly call crazy-- medically crazy. (So it's kind of an apples to oranges comparison with the other two.)

Stroke and Alzheimer's are pathological conditions that can be medically diagnosed at autopsy. Either one can cause dementia, which is a medical sign resulting from a variety of different causes
