My uncle just had a stroke?

what is going to happen to him to recover? how long will they keep him in the hospital? will he need care at home after he leaves the hospital?

It all depends on what kind of stroke, how severe, and what was effected. It also matters what side, or where in the brain, it happened.

If it was a small stroke there might not be any noticeable side effects, or some mild things like slight muscle paralysis, typically on one side of the body. With larger strokes it can make it so one side of the body doesn't function any longer, if the left side is paralyzed it means that it was a right brain stroke and vise versa. This can also mean that it can impact how he talks, thinks, remembers, acts, and deals with daily activities.

How long he is in the hospital varies, but he will be there until he gets all kinds of tests run to see what has gone on. He might be home in a couple days, or weeks, or have to go to a nursing home for therapy for a while. If it's a severe enough stroke it is possible never to come home, unfortunately.

After care, again, depends on severity. With a mild stroke it might not be needed other than some rest and little things. With a major stroke there will be a lot of help needed.

I hope your uncle will be ok, best wishes to you and your family.
