Effects of a stroke?

we have just been told that my mother has had a mini-stroke, we are not aware of when this happened, and were only told that it wasnt within the few days before the brain scan. there doesnt seem to be any 'damage' left apart from memory loss, can anyone offer any advice on do's and dont's to try to avoid another and maybe bigger stroke, her blood pressure is quite high at the moment but the doctor doesnt want to mess around with medication for a week or two to see how things are going,

Quitting tobacco and alcohol, controlling blood pressure and weight, eating a low salt, fat and cholesterol diet, regular exercise and reducing stress are some of the things you can do to lower your risk of having a stroke.

I had a big stroke ten years ago, blood pressure was a major factor. You just have to try and live as healthily as you can, no smoking obviously and try to get as much fresh air and excercise as is possible even though she may be in a weakened state. She will need some kind of hobby to occupy her mind as well.

Ischimia or ministrokes can leave a person disoriented though they rare;y create the kind of massive damage a full blown stroke can. You should have her diagnosed at a sleeo clinic for snoring. The latest research shows that people who snore face a 67% increased risk of stroke or, if they have had a stroke, of having a second stroke.

well there are lifestyle changes she should make to avoid another stroke. try this link
