Can you have a stroke without realizing it? |
My grandmother returned from a trip tp oklahoma about a week ago, and I really noticed a slur in her speech. I didnt say anything, but just yesterday she complained of a " crawling" sensation on her left arm and shoulder, and said she's been experiencing it since the middle of her trip. I told her she'd better see a doctor, i honestly think shes had a stroke... is this possible? Has anyone had any similar situations? its been about a week since her trip... Thank you I am a CNA and nursing student (working as a CNA with elderly) To answer your question, yes, you can have a stroke with out really knowing it, unless you know the signs. It sounds to me like she had a TIA (Trans-Iscemic Attack), or a Mini Stroke. It sounds as if she has had a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack) also known as a mini-stroke. I believe you can but I would get her to a doctor immediately because it could be signs of a bigger one to come. This happened to my grandmother when she was in Texas and she refused to go until she had a major stroke the following week. If she is showing signs like that it is better to be safe then sorry. Take her NOW. yes you can def. have a stroke and not know it...she should go see a dr immediatly! also if you suspect she is having another stroke ask her to smile and then stick out her tongue if she is having a stroke her smile will be paralised on one side same with tongue! Good luck! Yes, a stroke is called a CVA (Cerebral Vascular Accident) which involves the total blockage of an artery. This is definitely possible. Patients can experience silent or "ischemic" strokes which are only recognized by posterior symptoms: aphasia, alexia, partial paralysis of some muscle groups etc. These types of strokes of course are minor but are real. Yes, it is more than possible that your Grandmother has experienced a small stroke. The Dr should be able to confirm this and suggest measures to ensure she remains in good health from now on. Get her to see the Dr now My grandfather had one. He went to the doctor for a check up and they told him he had had a stroke sometime. His mouth droops on one side and sometimes it is so bad he drools a little while he is talking. Yes! I forgot what the name for this is, but it definitely happens where people have a mild stroke and don't realize it. Try searching on Yahoo health. You are right, she needs to see a doctor asap. I've had two mild strokes. I thought they were just headaches. I do pretty well considering, but I get confused and lose focus sometimes. I also have short term memory loss. these are mini strokes and what i understand will get worse . please have her see a doctor as soon as possible there are other things that can cause this, also try to monitor her blood pressure yes, very possible. Have her speak with her Dr and they can do tests on her brain. I would HIGHLY recommend doing it sooner than later. Yup, it's called a "Mini Stroke" yes George Bush has had hundreds well if your a canadian and like man snaugige yes |
