STROKE questions>?? |
My dad had a stroke and im 12 he is 60 but i have a question,he is getting ready for rehabilitation i believe he had a serious stroke on one side of his neck the clorte artery is closed so they cant do surgery but medicine treatment & simple blood thinners..about how long will it take for him to recover? He is still in hospital he is getting out in a few days for rehabilitation,he can talk well but somethings dont make sense,& he can move well but he cant walk well.one side of his body is weak.the right side is. thx so far for your help. the carotid artery actually supplies blood to most of the middle and front part of the brain, by the middle and anterior cerebral arteries respectively. it depends how high the block was. the higher the less he will be affected. if he has lost the ability to do something, im sorry to say, that the neurons in that part of the brain were oxygen and nutrient deprived for too long and may have died, causing irreversible damage if they did. there may be some recovery of his lost functions, but they take time....but hell do fine as long as he stays stroke free i'm sorry to hear... there really isnt a definite answer for that question it could take a short while or a long time.. he may not fully recover 100 percent but at first he will make a lot of progress and eventually it will slow down its been over a year since my mom had a severe stroke and she still has some short term memory problems, some numbness on her left side and trouble with her vision but she is still making progress... it'll be tough for him while he is recovering so be ready and supportive Your dad's age is against him. Rehab will teach the uninjured part of his brain to do the work that the injured part did. If he does not give up and you do not give up on him he will get better. He may not ever be 100%. The words that don't make sense to you do to him. He knows what he wants to say, it just gets mixed up between his brain and his mouth. Be patient. Believe me he is more flustrated than you are. |
