I want to loose weight by swimming, is there any specific swim strokes to help that? I want a flatter stomach!

I joined a leisure club recently and plan on going swimming every day after work..

To Deborah U,
I am 18 and about 9 and 3/4 stone
Thanks:)

Start with breaststroke as this is know as the womans stroke It will use your tum muscle but always remember to WARM UP AND WARM DOWN If you leave me a message on how old and your weight size I can put together a swimming program for you? good luck

there are many ways to get a flatter tummy, i realized that butterfly is a good way but remember to stretch and warm down. it is also great if you join a water sport/ team. try water polo its not only fun you meet new people and you learn to get a good technique in the water.
hope this helps :) Report Abuse

For a FLATTER STOMACH, 'recovery backstroke' and 'dolphin kicking' (legs-only butterfly) will tighten the relevant muscles. These 'core' muscles help your breathing, spinal health, and digestion, by compressing your internal organs.

The twisting movement used in 'crawl' will NOT help with this, IF your back is habitually held in a 'hyperextended' or 'arched' position. Pilates classes will teach you how to do a 'pelvic tilt' movement that can improve the benefit of swimming Crawl and doing other 'core-intensive' activities.

Losing weight is a different matter. You need to swim regularly, and for a good length of time each session. A steady pace is more important than your specific stroke, but 'stroke improvement' lessons will make it easier for you to keep going.

Exercise helps but the best way to lose weight is cutting the number of calories you eat. Butterfly uses the most energy, but you should just choose the stroke you enjoy most and then adjust the speed you swim at if you want to use more energy. You can't lose fat from specific areas of the body by exercising them.

do both the basic breast stroke and the back stroke.

swimming is the best overall exercise for toning muscles there is. any time for any one. Wish I had a swim pool to do laps in.

try the butterfly, it works your stomach muscles. but mostly every stroke you could do uses every muscle in your body.

Butterfly. It works in the pool or the bedroom.
