My daddy who just had a stroke and they are feeding him thru a tube, how long can he live on just Nutren? |
I kind of worry that just feeding the nutren, i worry he is hungry and starving to death. i have always heard they can't live just on a feeding tube. Yes he can live on a feeding tube. The food they are giving him is enough to substain life for a long period of time. Whoever is telling you that is just not informed. Nutren is probably a more balanced diet than any of the rest of us are eating and they will make sure by checking his weight about every week that he is not losing weight due to not enough food. If he is overweight they probably will want him to lose a little though. If he is totally unable to eat, it sounds like it was a really bad stroke. I assume from what you have written that he also is unable to communicate. He could live a long time on tube feeding but the other damage that occurred with the stroke could still shorten his life significantly. actually, he can survive indefinitely on just liquid nutrition. don't worry, he won't be hungry. it fills the stomach as solid food would. have the doc's said if this will be a permanent thing? Im so sorry :( You can live a long time with a feeding tube, my nephew lived 16 yrs. with one. Hopefully your dads will be short term. that is how my sis eats and she had been doin it for like 7 years now |
