What's the difference betweet heat stroke and heat exhaustion?

What's the difference betweet heat stroke and heat exhaustion?

Heat stroke is caused by the body absorbing more heat than it can get rid of. Signs and symptoms include unconsciousness (or severe altered mental status), lack of sweating, pale skin, hypertension, and an elevated core temperature. This is the most serious of heat injuries and requires emergency treatment including IV fluids and ice to cool down the body.

Heat exhaustion is less serious, but can easily lead to heat stroke. It is marked by pale, diaphoretic (sweating) skin, dizziness, weakness, thirst, muscle cramps and nausea. Treatment for this is not an immediate medical emergency, but does need to be addressed as soon as possible. Loosen any restrictive clothing, rest in a shady area out of the heat, and drink water. That is the best thing you can do for heat exhaustion. Drink water and drive on!
