Can a teenager have a stroke and how common is it for a teen to have one? |
Can a teenager have a stroke and how common is it for a teen to have one? Yes, it is possible, but as the other people have stated, it is rare. However, that may not be the case in the near future. The National Pediatric Association has now suggested that children as young as 8 years old be given statin drugs if they are obese. The use of statin drugs lowers the cholesterol in the body and makes it more susceptible to strokes. In fact, Strokes are now the number 3 killer disease in America today following heart disease and cancer. I really do not think it is that common but it does happen. I know a coworker who had one when she was in her twenties. She had a blood clot and it almost killed her. She thought it was a migraine but it later turned out to be much more serious. She was in good health and ate properly. It is hard to say. Just live and love hard each day because you never know. The main causes of strokes and heart attacks in teenagers is chronic use of amphetamines (ie, crystal meth, cocaine, speed, etc.) Other than this, it is very rare for a teenager to have a stroke. They certainly can, even babies, they dont really know the causes for this but have read it in the newspapers and seen it on 'real medical shows' not the pretend ones like er or gp etc., it is extremely rare but yes it does exist! :) Yes they can. It is not common but it can happen and it can have the same results as in an older person, however children can recover brain function more rapidly and effectively than older folk. It's increasingly possible for a teenager to have a stroke because of fatty foods etc clotting the veins. Not sure on stats though. it is possible but rare, the causes of stroke are more numerous than just eating mcdonalds. why do you ask? in this mcdonalds eating day and age i wouldnt put it passed the realm of possibility |
