Is there a link between stroke and mental disorders??

I have a friend who had a big stroke and afterwards began hearing voices and seeing things.
no this isnt a joke its for real and i was just wondering if it was from the stroke

crud i clicked the wrong thumb lol
...how do i fix it on here????? sorry i was trying to give it a thumbs up....

Well, I first thought your question was in regard to cause (and that would have been no), but to answer your interresting question: a stroke causes a blockage in 90% of the cases (or a hemorrage in the remaining 10%). Depending on how fast treatment is given, where exactly the lesion is, how large the affected area is, brain damage may occur and interrupt and alter the very delicate electrical and chemical interactions in the brain cells.

Despite widespread (mis)believe that mental illness is not areal disease, there are in fact manifested biological changes which include malfunctioning of the chemical imbalances (in schsizophrenic and other organic brain diseases the changes can be actually detected.

It is not well understood how the brain really works, what the cause of a hallucination is or a pychotic episode. But many medical conditions can cause these mental disabilities.

It is well possible that she has these symptoms due to many factors including the "scarring" or damaged area of the stroke (other possibilities: PTSD - post traumatic stress disorder= a stroke can be a very traumatic experience to the affected person, Depression, pychosis etc.)

IT COULD BE MEDICINE IF THEY PUT THEM ON ANY OR THE BLOOD SUPPLY GETTING TO THE BRAIN. THIS PERSON NEEDS TO GET CHECKED OUT FOR ANY BLOOD CLOTS THAT COULD HAVE MOVED INTO THE BRAIN.
