Can an ischemic stroke be fatal?

also what age groups are mostly affected by strokes?

It would be very unlikely as far as it being fatal. If someone loses consciousness (which is rare in and of itself) then they may fall down and manage to hurt themselves fatally, but the TIA (transient ischemic attack) is generally not fatal. The big worry though is that TIAs generally point to strokes later in life. As it is with strokes, risk for TIAs increase with age and are made more possible by being overweight or consuming high-calorie foods and fats. I don't believe there is a set age group that suffers more, but it is more common in older people.

Pengalor is is not talking about the same thing as you. He is talking about a TIA, which is NOT a stroke.

There are 2 different kinds of strokes: hemmorhagic and ischemic. Hemmorhagic is a broken vessel in the brain that causes bleeding and is much worse than an ischemic stroke.

Ischemic strokes are a clot that keeps blood from flowing to parts of the brain. The longer that part of the brain doesn't get adequate blood flow, the worse off you are. The longer it goes, the more of the brain dies. Thats why the first hour and 1/2 of having symptoms is SO important to get treatment.

So yes, you can die from an ischemic stroke, it can cut off parts of the brain that keep you from breathing, etc.

Im unsure of age groups, older people are obviously much more susceptable because their vessels are just....old.

I know several people that have had strokes as young adults though---20-25.

Hope this helps!
