My mom is 54 and have hypertension, she started spitting blood clots this morning . Is this a sign of stroke

She does not a cold or anything. She called me today saying since this morning her mouth was feeling weird...and she has been spitting blood clots throughout the day

Just spoke to her ...She lives in Jamaica and I live in Florida..She just left the hospital and they gave her antibiotics and told her to go see a denist....I am still not satified because she says she feels like their is a blockage in her throat...I told her to go to her family doctor in the morning just to be sure ...i dont undersand what the dentist would have to do about that... and she does not have any problem with her teeth..She wears dentures..Thanks to everyone for your answers..I need to do alot of praying because i know i could not survive if anything should ever happen to my mom

Spitting up blood indeed sounds serious. It could be pneumonia, clots in the lungs, and probably dozens of other things. What does she mean by her mouth feeling weird? If the inside is raw or dry, it could be from dried blood. If her lips, etc. are numb or tingling, or if it's difficult to swallow, it could be a mild stroke (also related to clots).

I agree with you, I also would not be satisfied with antibiotics and referral to a dentist. I don't know anything about the health care system in Jamaica, though. Since she is seeing her doctor first thing in the morning, ask her to call you (or you call her) tonight and again in the morning. Maybe that will ease your fears until she can be seen and properly diagnosed!

Good luck, and God bless!

i would say more like an anurism in the stomach. get her to the hospital now! this can be deadly. a friend of mines mother did the same thing and didnt get help soon enough and she died. good luck an god bless i hope everything works out

Probably not a stroke but serious nonetheless, I would definitely go to the doctor ASAP or the ER.

she could have a blood clot in the lung
take her to the doctors NOW
