Dad had a stroke. Now he gets naked and plays with himself in public. Is there a medication that would help? |
After the stroke, he lost his eyesight and most of his faculties. His mind is not right now either. He lashes out at mom and the kids - cursing and sometimes hitting. He has to have help eating, dressing, etc. He is near helpless. We were at the beach the other day and he stood up and pulled his pants down and fondled himself. It happened later in the week at Wal-Mart. This has happened few times before the beach episode. Is there anything that can be done? Medication, etc? I know there is a medicine that would completely knock him out, but we don't want that. Take your father to his doctor and explain the situation to him.. sounds to me like he's going to need to be in an institution, much as I would hate the idea, but, he could be arrested for public indecency for doing those things, and that would be even harder on you and your family. well, there are assisted living facilities that would take both of them, and that's probably what she needs.. or, just put him into one and live with one of you kids so she doesn't have to be alone, BUT, if he gets arrested and sent to prison for what he does, she'd still be alone. Report Abuse It sounds very distressing for you and your family. I think there are medications that could help without subduing him entirely. It sounds as though the stroke has caused some frontal lobe damage and is therefore creating some disinhibited behaviour. I think it would be useful to have your father assessed by a psychogeriatrician who would be able to advise more fully. Get him to a doctor and have him rechecked. If he hurts others or himself then it is not worth it. Your dad is worth better treatment. Poor feller let him have his fun, besides we let the U.S. Supreme Court put "The Decider" into power in order to put a stop to Stem Cell research for people like your Daddy back in 2000...remember? |
