I am having panic attacks for no reason..I am so afraid I'm having heart attacks or even a stroke during them!

Am I alone here.. I get so worked up I almost convince myself I'm going to have a heart attack or stroke...I'm so scared...it just keeps happening out of no where...can anyone help me...some ways to snap myself out of it or some reason why this could be happening?!

Thank you dearly for taking the time to help me out
I'm making an appointment on Monday
The breathing thing helped quite a bit...

Breathe deeply & slowly, down into your diaphragm.

Fill your diaphragm (the lower part of your lungs).

Like this:

Slowly breath in--to the count of 4...

Fill your diaphragm, then hold it, to the count of 4...

Then slowly release the air, to the count of 4.

Pause, then repeat each of those.

This ought to take you from panic mode, to normal mode.

Singing --and filling your diaphragm-- is also effective!

IF you seem to be having trouble 'remembering' to breathe, a simple trick to get yourself to take an involuntary deep breath, is to squirt yourself right in the face with a water-mister! (Feels GREAT on a hot day!) (;

IF for some reason you are too distracted by surrounding circumstances to concentrate enough to do the breathing excersize, you can use a small paper bag, crumple the opening into a hole to fit over your mouth / nose, hold it tight against your face, & breath into & out of it, repeatedly.

Thank You for Best Answer.
But, it really belongs to my Naturopathic doctor...
At least, he's the one who taught the technique to me.
Of course, God is the one who made it so easy to calm ourselves! Report Abuse

Eh.. Jehovah's Witness? Report Abuse

You might have an anxiety disorder. Unfortunately, there's often not one clear "reason why it's happening." A professional can help you find the source of your anxiety and learn to feel your emotions in a healthy way. I strongly recommend finding a therapist in your area that specializes in panic attacks and anxiety disorders.

In the meantime, when you start to feel anxious, try to fix in your head a calming thought--the sky, clouds, a warm blanket. Think about a place where you feel totally safe, and try to go there in your mind. Remember to take deep, even breaths. Focus on the air going in and out of your lungs. These things can help you relax in the moment.

you will not have heart attacks or stroke. You should bring your anxiety down ASAP otherwise they will keep on happening. You need to learn to relax. There are a lot of relaxation techniques out there, the most popular is control breathing technique. Slow down with your breathing. Do something you enjoy eg dancing, swimming, yoga, meditate etc. I think you've gone into a vicious cycle so go and talk to your gp as soon as you can. They will help you and maybe refer you to a psychologist.

It is most commonly stress. Everyone has it, though your stress might be more severe. Go see a doctor when you can.
