in 2005 my mother had a stroke that nearly killed her. after 3 months of recovery and rehab she was getting back to normal....suddenly this morning, she had another stroke...i was terrifed.... now she's ok, but she can't move or speak.....if she gets better this time hopefully, how do i prevent it so it doesn't happen again???

Preventing a stroke is not difficult if you take certain precautions. According to the national stroke association, patients are advised to know the following:

鈥?Stop smoking

鈥?Drink alcohol in moderation

鈥?Keep tabs on blood pressure and get it checked once in a year.

鈥?Eating a low fat diet is equally important.

鈥?Keep a check on circulation problems. Let your physician check for it including the risk of stroke.

鈥?Take adequate measures to control diabetes.

鈥?Make exercise an integral part of your daily routine.

鈥?Go for a cholesterol check.

鈥?Focus on a low-salt diet.

鈥?Look for the symptoms of stroke and rush for medical attention immediately. The symptoms include blurring of vision, intense headaches, dizziness, weakness of the face or even a limit.

- You must remember that high blood pressure is the leading cause of stroke.

Here are certain steps in order to prevent a stroke:

鈥?You should control your blood pressure. Get it checked regularly and if required, take special measures to reduce it. Lowering high blood pressure reduces the risk of heart disease as well as stroke.

鈥?Cigarette smoking is directly related to risk for a stroke. A lot of research suggests that there is a lower risk of getting a stroke in people who have quit smoking as compared to those who still smoke.

鈥?Regular exercising is necessary moderate exercise makes the heart stronger and enhances circulation. This helps you control weight. Being overnight contributes to the risk of high blood pressure, heart disease as well as diabetes. Physical exercises such as jogging, swimming, walking, jumping, yoga and yard work reduces the risk of both stroke and heart disease.

鈥?Have Jesus in your life :] go to a nice Baptist Church or a Church that preaches only the Bible :D

鈥?Focus on a healthy diet. You need to focus on eating a wide variety of fruits and vegetables.

鈥?You should control your diabetes. In case, the disease is left untreated, it can damage the blood vessels throughout the body and ultimately lead to atherosclerosis.

Sedentary life styles can lead to many health problems such as increased blood pressure, weight gain and results in bad cholesterol levels. You need to take special care about taking a lot of time for exercising.

Regular indulgence in physical activity will help you fight heart diseases as well as a stroke. However, it is also important to consult your doctor prior to indulging in any sort of physical activity. There may be a lot of risk to your heart if you indulge in wrong kind of exercises.

If you are a woman, hormone replacement therapy will do a lot of good to you. This therapy is good for woman who is past menopause. This therapy is usually recommended to those who have high risks of stroke and heart attack. Focus on having at least six servings of fruits or vegetables in a day.

In case, you suffer from a carotid artery, your doctor may suggest you to go for a carotid endarterectomy to eliminate fatty deposits. Also try to control medical problems with medications as prescribed by your doctor.

Read up on stroke. The best thing is to be informed on the matter as it would help you understand the mechanisms that lead to a stroke. By knowing the mechanisms you will be able to help your mother avoid this.

The biggest problem I had with my folks is to convince them that what they do or the way they do it is wrong. I got through to them though and I made them understand that they are not the only ones to suffer.

Good luck.

okay everytime shes having a stroke you have to take her to the hospital or call 911 asap it can prevent the most brain damage thell give here medicine such as blood thiners talk to her doctor
also dude okay if shes having a stroke you have about an hour to prevent perminate damage such as memory loss i looked this up when my grandmother had one get her to a hospital if she hasnt been there yet or it will cause problems
-best of luck

what is the lifestyle choice or genetic disposition that has made this happen? You have to treat the cause, not the symptoms.

Overweight? Nutritional education.
Fast track>go vegan.

High blood pressure in the family with no obesity?
Fast track>aspirin (and I MEAN ASPIRIN not Tylenol or ibuprofen) once daily and a garlic herbal supplement.

More? go to the American Heart Association website and also the Mayo Clinic.

Just make sure she gets regular doctors visits and she is relaxing and doing everything possible to prevent another stroke.

hopefully you called the doc. get a serious doctor because everytime she has one her brain will be damaged. get her checked up and scanned. hope ypur mom feels better

idk ask a doctor, sorry cant help.
