17 year old, stroke, life support... will she make it?

A friend of mine just recently suffered from a stroke at age 17. She is on life support and I just want to know what the chances of her making it are. Thanks.

That's very young to have a stroke but I'm sure that you already know that. Have they done any diagnostic tests to determine the type of stroke she had? Has she had a cerebral angiogram done, eeg? Her prognosis will be determined by the type of stroke she had and how much brain damage has occurred. You write that she is on life support have you been into see her. Does she move her arms or legs? Does she respond to any stimulus? Is she taking any breaths on her own? You haven't provided enough information for me to comment on her prognosis. If you find out new information please post it with your question. I hope she will be ok,take care, Donna

How a patient will do after a stroke depends on so many factors that it is hard to tell without all of her medical information (and even with all the medical information, it is still hard to tell because recovery is different for every patient).
In general the fact that she is young is a huge bonus! She is much more likely to recover more and faster than someone older than her with the same sort of stroke.
I had a stroke at 17 and two when I was 18 and I went from being bedridden and not well enough to even watch TV to being a college student in just a few months, so there is definitely still hope. :0)

17 !? wow. there is no way to answer this. sorry. there are different types of stroke and they can effect different areas of the brain in varying degrees. you could try talking to her folks if they're up to it.
i hope she pulls through.

Depends on the severity.
Are you taking bets?
