Could I have had a stroke this morning? |
Recently, for about the past week or so, I've been waking up with a numb left arm. I just shook it off as I was just sleeping on it. The only thing that didn't add up was that I sleep either on my back or my right side, and normally if anything goes numb when I wake up it's my right arm because I'm laying on it. When it happened I could move my left arm and left leg, but it felt extremely awkward trying to move my arm, almost as if I was too weak to lift it. I'm pretty sure I could move it after I had gotten up, but it was extremely hard to move and felt very, very awkward. Numbness like what you're describing is very bad. And if you -did- have a stroke, it's likely to happen again without medical attention. Get to a doctor or a hospital to get checked out as soon as possible. It is imperative to get to a doc tonight. An unattended stroke can lead to permanent brain damage/ loss of mobility. Please go ahead and get examined tonight. Even a few hours can make a difference to your health. It may be nothing, but it may be more serious. A couple things you can do to see if you have had a stoke: Smile. Usually you won't be able to because one half of your face will be paralyzed. Second: Talk. A lot of times stroke victims will have a difficult time. Raise your arms. If you can't raise both then call 911. |
