Yes, you can die from a stroke, thousands of people do each year. And it normally isn't painful because when the vessel ruptures in your head (or clogs) you pass out and don't feel anything.

Short answer, yes you can if the stroke (or CVA in medical terms) is big enough.

A stroke affects the blood supply to any part of the brain and stroke that occur in the brain stem for example have very poor prognosis.

Yes you can die from a stroke, it is a leading cause of death in the US, and it depends on the situation for if it is painful or not I imagine. A sudden massive stroke likely would not be that painful.
