What could be wrong, could it be a stroke? |
My husband is 55 years old and has quite a stressful lifestyle, the other day he felt a popping sensation in his head then his vision went funny but he had no pain, he is seeing the doctor next week but I was wondering if anyone knows what it could be? potentially it could be a Transient Iscaemic attack = commonly known as a mini-stroke. the link is to the NHS page on TIAs so you can get more info but really a gp needs to diagnose. if it is a TIA your husband may be at more risk of having a stroke so his health needs to be monitored carefully. Also I would suggest calling the GP if you think it is a TIA as they may want to see him more urgently than next week. Source(s): http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/articles/art... Yes, it could have been a stroke. Surprised that he hasn't gone to see the doctor as yet. it was more likely a transiant ischeamic attack (TIA) or a "mini stroke" its a warning sign so make sure he makes that Drs appointment I don't think this event was a stroke. I think it was a TIA (Transient Ischaemic Attack). TIAs do occur in people with high stress levels and these can lead to strokes. A TIA is a sort of a mini-stroke where very minor blood vessels burst and cause momentary symptoms. These symptoms can last for minutes, hours, days sometimes months. Your husband is going to have to seriously reconsider his life style if he experiencing TIAs or strokes at the very young age of 55. His GP will carry out some tests and may prescribe for your husband an anti-coagulant such as warfarin. The warfarin will thin the blood down and reduce the risk of a srtroke, but it's not guaranteed. Herbal Medicine Diploma (Distinction) Just something both of you should keep in mind for the future - There are three things that you can do to see if someone has suffered a stroke: *Ask the individual to SMILE. *Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS. *Ask the person to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE. If he or she has trouble with any of these tasks, call 9-1-1 immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher. It sounds like your hubby didn't have a stroke, but it's good for everyone to keep those three simple steps in mind, just in case. Strokes are scary beasts in that the victim may not realize anything is wrong at all! |
