Can Doctors tell if you have had a stroke after 3 months?

Strokes and heart conditions run in my family. My son believes he may have had a stroke. He has been experiencing problems with his left eye. A relative told him Doctors can't tell if someone had a stroke unless diagnosed right away. I have tried to get to go to a doctor but he said they can't tell anyway. Is this true? Can't a doctor tell if someone had a stroke unless it is diagnosed right away?

Doctors can do imaging studies, like CAT scans or MRI's, that show pictures of the brain - if an area of the brain has been affected by a stroke, it will often show up. This will be evident on the tests even months later.

If your son goes to the doctor, and the doctor suspects a stroke, he can request one of these tests. However, there are lots of reasons your son may be having difficulty with his left eye - many are correctable, so by all means he should go to his doctor to have it checked out. Also, a visit to the eye doctor may be useful as well.
Doctors cannot predict the stroke unless properly the person is examined and investigated. There may or may not be.
