What kind of specialitst can you see for stroke symptoms? |
Other than your regular doctor, what kind of specialist can you see if you think you are developing symptoms of a stroke? Most specialsist will want you to start with you family doctor. There are many things that can appear to be a stroke, but aren't. They can do the initial testing and then get you into the appropriate specialist (if needed) quicker than if you made an appointment on your own. A carotid ultrasound is the easiest, cheapest, and best way to screen for stroke risk. It should be done (if possible) by a high volume ultrasound department. Should significant narrowings of the carotid arteries be found, then the patient should see a vascular surgeon. These are THE specialists in treating carotid artery disease. Source(s): experience as a cardioascular PA You get yourself right to the emergency room! Neurologist good a neurologist I would say a Neurologist or a Heart Specialist. I think Stroke is connected to the two. Go to ER, they should so CT/MRI scan to see what type of stroke it is and what treatment can be given. If it is a hemorragic stroke NO streptokinase treatment can be given (it kind of dissolves the clot that caused stoke), but streptokinase can be given if it is iscemic stroke. Again, if there has been a recent operation (e.g. eye operation), patient is pregnant it can't be given, but this and other treatment has to be discussed with the doctor. In this case neurologist and/or neurosurgeon. |
