Do hemopheliacs have a less chance of having heart disease/ stroke since their blood doesn't clot that well? Some strokes are caused by clots, and some by bleeding. Hemophiliacs are at risk for hemorrhagic strokes from "intracranial bleeds." actually they have a greater chance of clotting as they need continuous transfusions and that induces the bodys immune system to make antibodys against the foreign blood over time. care is traken to avoid different blood groups but cells have other not very well known antigens besides the well known ABO and rhesus antigens on them that promote antigenicity over time and therefore clotting that can form thrombi and emboli and in turn cause heart problems and/or stroke. Hemophiliacs live a horrible life with pain of bleeding into joints. They should have not been born, since the mother knew she had the gene. They do not live long enough for heart attacks and brain hemorrhage can occur. |
