What can be done for someone who has had a stroke due to chemotherapy and is on a respirator?!?!?

No fake answers, please!!!

To be realistic, probably not much. A lot depends on the person's age, severity of the stroke, the health of the lungs before going on the respirator.

Not to sound insensitive, but his prognosis sounds pretty poor. His family needs to talk with his doctors about how long he might be on the respirator, chances for a meaningful recovery, etc. Also, did he express whether he wanted to be on a respirator long term?

This is a tough situation. Supporting the family and prayer (if you so believe) are about the best you can do.
I am going to presume a Cat Scan or MRI was already done. This will help determine the probability of the person recouperating from the stroke, or not. Was it a stroke because of bleeding or a blood clot....treatment WILL be different depending. You and your family need to know the kind of damage done by the stroke and the prognosis before a decision is made to continue or stop extra-ordinary care. Also, how serious is the cancer this person has? Sometimes after a couple of days of ventilator support, a decision can be made to literally "pull the tube" to allow the patient to fly on their own (so to speak) or not.....It's tough to deal with, but get as much info on prognosis as you can and then make a decision of love...with love.
