I asked the other day about my new granddaughter having seizures, and now we know she had a stroke. Does anyon |
know anything about infant stroke? We are very upset. She is in excellent hands at NICU in Worcester but the doctors only tell you so much about what to expect. Mabey somebody knows about this infant stroke and what to expect for her. She was a full term baby 8pounds 13 ounces, 20 hour labor before a c section. The second day her mother noticed her left arm moving up and down in a violent manner. She is on phenobarbitol and not seizing until it is wearing off. A MRI today showed a stroke on the right side. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Hi, I answered you the other day. I'm afraid you want what all famlies want...straight answers...specifics...I spent years explaining to people that with babies, and with problems like Molly's, there are no straight answers. It is impossible to predict because every baby and every circumstance is different. Is the baby alert? Does she suck? Pheonbarbital will (especially at first) make her more sleepy. She may recover completely, or she may be prone to seizures and need medication all her life. Most docs keep babies on Phenobarbital for at least a year, then , if there have been no seizures, they decrease it and gradually take the baby off it. This was done successfully for my granddaughter. Is she breathing well on her own, or is she on a ventilator? The docs are cautious about giving specific answers because !. they don't know yet, and 2. babies always surprise us. I have occasionally seen a doc give a family a poor prognosis...and he was completely wrong...so they usually don't do that. It is hard to accept that there are no straight answers at this time...but it is true. You may email me if you like ..with any questions.
