Why do people keep mostly iron key chains or keys bunch in a person who gets a fitts stroke?

Folklore has it that an epileptic fit can be stopped by bringing the affected in contact with metal.
This has no rational basis at all and does not work.

Ensure that the person having the seizure does not harm himself. Loosen clothing, keep the patient in a open area where he will not hit against any hard objects. If the patient has vomited turn the patient to his side to prevent aspiration of the vomitus. Usually, seizures are transient, however, if they seem to be continuing seek immediate medical help. Do not attempt to make the patient drink water or fluids during a seizure or immediately afterwards as he aspirate the fluid into his lungs.
The patient needs to see a neurologist and start/adjust his dose of anti-epileptic drugs.
Adult onset seizures need to be investigated for secondary causes like tumours.
