What exercises would you suggest for someone who has lost some function in their hand due to a stroke?

my father lost some of his control in his left hand after having a stroke this week. he is going into occupational therapy, but would using a stress ball in his spare time or anything else help aid his recovery?

when I crushed 2 disks in my neck, my left arm and hand were partially paralyzed. After my operation to make new disks, the Dr. told my I would never really regain use of my left hand, fingers, or my arm. I didn't like that idea. I used the ball for squeezing, I continued to work on the computer, although, my left hand was a lot slower than my right..........eventually, it caught up! I continued to play the piano, as well........although, the doctor told me it would not help. My left hand had a hard time catching up to my right hand, but, after months of daily working on it, IT DID! I had a grandbaby coming, and all I could think of, was that I would not be strong enough in my left hand to even hold the new baby. The way I was, I could not lift a coffee cup with my left hand, without just dropping it! AHA! By the time the baby arrived, my left hand and I had no problems.................well, except for the arthritis that I expected to have, anyway! Do whatever your father enjoys doing with his hands..............and do it daily. The ball is good, but, using the fingers separately is really important, I think. It did work for me. He can be, too! Source(s): I used to be partially paralyzed. I worked it away~
