What are mini-strokes? How do you watch for them?

mini strokes are small strokes that are caused by partial very temporary blockage of blood flow to the brain .
they may or may not result in fainting.
the person will suffer symptoms the same as a large stroke but more often one symptom at a time . this can result in memory loss confusion less mobility or loss of feeling in parts of the body IE one part of the face or a finger .
partial paralyzing to the face or other parts of the body not as severe as a major stroke may be seen.
this is something that doctors often mix up with senility old age
Alzheimer's dementia and brain tumors as was the case with my own mother. .
When the person starts to slur their words and when they Dribble at the mouth. There can be a loss of feeling in the left side arm , hands and feet.. The lip may drop down slightly on one side.
Mini strokes or "TIAs" are warnings of a potential for full blown strokes. The symptoms are the same. Inability to move an arm or leg, trouble speaking, loss of vision in one eye. Typically, the symptoms resolve in an hour or so.

A carotid artery ultrasound should be done. If significant narrowings are found, a vascular surgeon should be consulted.
