Can a stroke cause a lesion in the breain with edema? |
Can a stroke cause a lesion in the breain with edema? Edema in laymans terms means swelling. Depending upon which part of the brain the lesion was found. Yes it could be a stoke, a mini stoke etc..etc... It just all depends what type of lesion, what it looks like .. There is no way to get a diag. on yahoo. This I'm assuming is going to being looked at by a neurologist. That is the only way to get a correct diag. was this a MRI? Good luck Alabama Dude, I feel for you, you are looking for another reason, however a stroke appears a specific way on CT and they would have told him it was a stroke, not a lesion. Sorry. Good Luck! An acute (ie recent) stroke may very well show up on CT (or MRI) as an area of damage surrounded by edema. Over the course of a few days, assuming nothing else happens, the edema will clear. The clearing of the edema is one of the reasons there is often some improvement in neurological function in the first few days. a stroke otherwise known as CVA is caused by a clot/emboli - a dislodged clot/emboli that goes to the brain. A lesion is "bruising" of an area that may have been caused by increase amount of pressure, narrowing of an artery, and perfusion. If we talk about a stroke causing a lesion - well maybe the lesion caused the stroke - it is the other way around. yes a stroke may cause an edema but not in the brain, most likely in the periorbital area(the eyes). An Aneurism is a likely cause of a hemorrhagic stroke, where lesions and Increased Intracranial Pressure may be seen. Please do not confuse ICP with edema, ICP is the pressure inside the skull, once the brain gets hurt, it increases and should not be taken lightly. Edema is an accumulation of fluid in areas such as your abdomen, legs, feet and eyes. a nurse practitioner here. |
