Question about a stroke survivor...?

My friend's step dad had a stroke on the right side a few months ago. At the start he'd been very kind and cooperative with his meds and care. A few days ago, he started to become very rude and he was in pain. 911 was called because of his pain and behavior. He became extremely combative and responded to the EMT's with "It's Tuesday,it's February,Clinton is our president,my name is Michael"(it's not his name) he was verbally violent and tried to fight the very people who were trying to help.
Does anyone know if this is normal and if it can be remedied?

He probably has swelling of the brain which causes the combative behavior and memory loss. I hope he's getting care and therapy somewhere...he may not ever get back to normal, but they should be able to calm him.
It's not normal. Remedy depends on the type and location of stroke - and how early it was caught - and how much damage has already been done. The doctors will give you more information.

I hope that he gets better. I feel for you and his friends and family.
I don't know if it can be remedied, but it sounds familiar. My grandmother had a stroke, and it completely changed her personality, along with the obvious physical changes. I don't know if it is directly related to the stroke, or if it has to do with the new physical condition that she is in that causes her anger, and changed mood. I think it may be a bit of both. Good luck with it, strokes are tough on everyone, not just the person that has it.
Life Experience
My aunt had a stroke and so did a friend of mine. My friend was not mean but sometimes he got mad because he couldn't do anything anymore. So when the nurses and people tried to help him he would get frustrated. But i guess it may be possible to cure it in some way. Maybe not the whole thing but probably some of it.
